Antonietta Collins
Antonietta Toniz Collins (born in Mexico) is an Mexican American journalist. She currently works as a sportscaster for ESPN, working as anchor for SportsCenter news and hosting SportsNation. She was hired by ESPN as a news anchor in the year 2016. She is a daughter of Maria Antonieta Collins, a TV reporter. Antonietta was bilingual from the time she turned nine. This ability that allowed her to get her first position as a Univision production assistant in Miami. In Miami, she was a producer for National shows like Nuestra Belleza Latina Premios Lo Nuestro Premios Juventud Primer Impacto. Then, in St. Petersburg, she was later employed to the CBS station to work as a sports journalist. In 2009 she moved to Rio Grande Valley to work as a journalist at KNVO TV 48 Univision & Fox2 News. Reporters covered issues related to illegal immigration as well as drug trafficking in both Texas and Mexico. The station also frequently asked her to fill in as a sports and weather anchor. Later, she was anchor and reporter on Univision's Dallas affiliate Deportes 23 where she was granted more responsibilities. She covered The Major League Baseball ALDS ALCS World Series, the Dallas Cowboys and the NBA Postseason, as well as the finals for FC Dallas FC Dallas Stars. Additionally, she was the producer of Univision 23's local sports show Accion Deportiva Extra on which she was anchor. She has been promoted to sports anchor on Despierta America Deportes' morning show. Also, she was an anchor on sports for Primer Impacto, a magazine show on the UniMas Network and Contacto Deportivo. Antonietta Collins was born and raised in Veracruz Mexico. They eventually settled in Mexico City and she was born on the 22nd of November in 1985. Her older sister is also hers. The family moved in 1992 to Mexico to the US and settled in Miami. Soon after they separated, and, in 1995 Fabio Fajardo remarried. He passed away from kidney cancer in the year 2006. The summer of the year 2006, Antonietta spent one week with her sibling at Canton Ohio. The older Collins girl was employed at the time. Antonietta still a senior at high school but she had a clear idea of the path she was looking for. When she was deciding whether Mount Union would be a good fit to her needs, Antonietta went to visit the university. It was a beautiful campus and provided the education she sought. After finishing high school, she made the decision to go to the university to pursue a degree in media studies. Mark Bergmann, her professor who was also WRMU's 91.1FM station, where she was employed for a number of years, was her friend. It was he who inspired her confidence, and his passion in Journalism touched her deeply. In turn, she determined to meet his demands and never let him down.
