It is a bit of a mystery as the West Island can be confusing for those who aren't familiar of its purpose. It is often believed that it is an island to the west of Montreal However, it's actually the West Island encompasses everything between the cities that are Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel grew up on the West Island, and it is commonly referred to as her birthplace. However, she only resided there for a very short duration. Brugel developed on Courtice just outside Oshawa in Ontario. She had a dream to dance but an increase in her height meant that she literally outgrew the dancers she was with. Ruth Roman (n e Gold) was born in Lynn in Massachusetts. The parents of her were Lithuanian Jewish immigrants Mary Pauline and Abraham Roman. Her father, who was a carnival barker, died at the age of a tiny girl, requiring her mother to help support her family through work as a waitress and cleaning woman.
